2024 Reunion Swag

The 2024 Hunter/Burns Family Reunion took place in Montgomery, Alabama the capital city of the Yellowhammer State. Montgomery, AL is known for it's civil rights history as it was host to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

In 1955, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. arrived at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church and led a boycott of the bus system in Montgomery. It was there that Ms. Rosa Parks had refused to give up her seat to a white passenger and of course it was also know that Black passengers after paying their fare were forced to enter the bus through the back doors.

It was a shame not to have been able to attend this reunion and see some of the historic sites there especially those concerning the Civil Rights Movement. Expected on the itinerary was visiting the city of Selma, AL which was the site of a march to Montgomery, AL that a protest for voting rights for Blacks. That march was dramatized in the blockbuster film Selma released in 2014.

Anyway here's some swag that will be shown on our Reunions page. One of the many t-shirts produced for our many reunions.

This reunion was one I had not been able to attend because our Tribal Historian was in the hospital at the time and unfortunately without having to drive directly there, Montgomery proved not to be a very easy destination to travel to. I'm sorry to have not been able to go.

If you attended the July 2024 reunion feel free to email me and let me know your thoughts on the reunion. Did you enjoy yourself?

As an aside this year for the first time I learned that our distant relations in the Butler family - that's the family of Bessie Butler of Alligator, MISS - also held their reunion this summer though located in Memphis, Tennessee. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend that one though hopefully there will be other reunions to attend for that side of the family in the near future.

If you're a member of the Butler family who attended that reunion feel free to email me to let us know what activities do you engage in for your family's reunions. And of course we would like to invite you to our future Hunter/Burns reunions as well.
